We've all heard the phrase "Today is a gift. Open it carefully." Do we really take the time to do that? It's so easy to simply react to a situation we see, or the news, or someone's response, or whatever it is, rather than taking a breath and seeing the truth. It's important to listen to your instincts and those internal responses as you move forward through your day. Remain as positive as you can...and there are times that can be a real challenge.
This exact moment is the gift or the "present" that the Universe has given us. It is so important to align your thinking with what you would like to create in your life. Every one of us has the ability to shape our reality with our thoughts, intentions and actions. What an amazing gift we have! Of course, there will be challenges put on our path, just remember they are a gift as well. A chance to learn. To grow.
Mikao Usui, who formalized the Reiki healing system, provided a set of guiding Principles that can be beneficial for us to visit each day.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will honor my many blessings.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to all living creatures.
I would like to add one more to that. Just for today, remember you are an amazing person. Be grateful for all you have. There are times blessings come in disguise, and therefore, some of the people and events we encounter and challenge us, turn out to be some of our greatest teachers. Remember to embrace those lessons.
Author Louise Hay has an affirmation: "My life is a mirror. The people in my life are really mirrors of me. This affords me the opportunity to grow and change." When you experience a challenge, rather than focusing on only the negative, change that focus to the lesson learned. Forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made. That is in the past and cannot be changed. Set the intention to be positive and forgive those involved.
When those negative emotions start to creep up, stop and notice your thinking patterns. Are you talking positively with yourself? Or have you moved into the might-have-been or should-have-happened neighborhoods? If so, move your thinking into what you'd really like to create in your life. Talk to yourself with kindness. Not just then, but always.
